We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Software Engineering Manager

Principal responsibilities

The Technical Product Management job is accountable for enabling the technical development and run-time operation of products and services within a Product Group or a set of development teams.

This position is responsible for product management of key elements of a specific HSBC GPB&W proposition in order to deliver distinctive value to Digital Client Servicing Platform using current and future digital technical capabilities.


This role will carry out some or all of the following activities:

Work with Product Owners and DevOps teams, and responsible for the delivery, on-going success & continuous improvement of a discrete set of products or business services, or shared products/platforms/environments that are used/consumed by other DevOps Teams.? Accountable with the Digital Client Servicing – Customer Data Servicing and Colleague Experience Enablement two capability lead to review requirements from a testability perspective and formulate the non-functional testing strategy.

Accountable together with Security Specialists or Product owner to formulate the security testing strategy.

Accountable for ensuring compliance of the products and services with mandatory and regulatory requirements, control objectives in the risk and control framework and technical currency (in line with published standards and guidelines) and, with the architecture function, implementation of the business imperatives.

Accountable for ensuring that all activities performed by teams adhere to the relevant prevailing data standards and data controls.

Work with the product owner to ensure that work is de-constructed and translated into development activities across teams.

Accountable for the creation and management of epics, backlog management and prioritisation across teams and for conformance to the IT operating model with regards to agile and Technology Practices.

Accountable for ensuring that all activities performed by Teams adhere to the relevant Service Management Standards, and high data quality exists in Service Management systems of record.

Work with product owner & team to ensure that the lead time to deploy changes is continuously improving and benchmarks appropriately across other functions within the DevOps team.

Work with product owner & team to ensure that high levels of automation are implemented and maintained across the teams.

Work with product owner & team to ensure that service levels are maintained and improved.

Participate as part of the DevOps leadership team in ensuring consistent process and practice is maintained across the DevOps team.

Accountable for ensuring that test strategies across DevOps activities are in place across teams for the products they support

Ensure that the product test strategy includes Test automation, Test Data and Environments – including virtual services.

Establish a digital environment and automate processes to minimize variation and ensure predictable high quality code and data.

Keep up to date and have expertise on current tools, technologies and areas like cyber security and regulations pertaining to aspects like data privacy, consent, data residency etc. that are applicable

Ensure service resilience, service sustainability and recovery time objectives are met for all the software solutions delivered.

Manage a team, with accountability for the performance of the team activities and focuses on continuous improvement of the performance of the team from a productivity, service, quality, training and effectiveness perspective.

Removing impediments for the team and shield them from interruptions, act as a coach to the team, Product Owner and wider organisation to help them continually improve, and facilitates the delivery of work and where appropriate.

Ensure all activities performed within the team adhere to the relevant data standards and data controls.

Ensure the level of automation within the team is optimised at all times, reducing the need for human intervention in the design, development and operational lifecycles, including decisions on tooling to achieve optimal performance.

Work with the Product Owner, Solution & Platform Architects to identify changes required, create & agree necessary stories.

Work with the Agile Lead to ensure efficient flow of the backlog of change activities.

Accountable for ensuring products and services maintain compliance with mandatory and regulatory requirements and control objectives within the risk and controls framework.

Responsible for ensuring group controls are maintained within the team activities and remediation activities are resolved swiftly.

Accountable for the operational stability, integrity and availability of products and services supported by the team.

Providing support the solution architect to ensure that solutions and services are supported by the right architectures & systems.


Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications


- Customer focused, results based approach, able to deliver to deadlines.

- Extensive experience in a senior IT management / delivery role / technical solution or architecture role

- Experience in a global or regional roles, delivering complex global programmes and projects effectively to deliver targets across diverse cultures

- Extensive experience in a managerial role within an IT or related field, including experience of managing a global function with a geographically dispersed team

- Ability to work in an unstructured and changing environment, competent at managing an ever-changing backlog and are able to pivot on strategy and priorities when business needs arise

- Knowledge of service-oriented architecture, strong understanding of modern API’s enablement, RESTFul services, building services, technical product development, and project management

- A first-hand working knowledge of current web technologies, specifically mobile applications, understanding the following terms and their context for development

- Proven ability to rapidly build relationships with key stakeholders, selectively communicating technical ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

- Ability to influence teams to think "outside" the box and look at solutions/approaches outside traditional comfort zones

- Able to broker agreement between IT and the business in a tactful and non-aggressive way

- Ability to question and reduce costs

- Strong interpersonal skills

- Experience in an Digital environment, understanding of the value technology adds to the business.

- Energetic, positive attitude and team player, having a sense of urgency and enthusiasm in developing a best in class product

- Have experience working with Agile lifecycle, tracking and process management tools, e.g. Rally, JIRA

- 3+ years of Technical Product Management experience in a related industry

- 5+ years of Team management


- Minimum of 10 years IT working experience
